Review on ๐Ÿ’จ KOOTION External SSD 250GB: High-Speed Portable Solid State Drive with 500MB/s Read and 450MB/s Write by David Gagnon

Write speeds are quite slow for SSDs and smaller capacities.

The overall design of this portable drive is beautiful. It is very small thin factor which makes it easy to store and light weight makes it very easy to carry. It is made of aluminum and does not get very hot during transfer. It uses a Micro USB 3.0 connector, which is now a bit dated compared to the unavailable Type-C drives that offer higher speeds. The cable is about a foot long, which is the standard for any USB cable these days. It's also fairly well built and made from a thick material so it won't break or wear out over time. The cable stays connected fairly well, so you don't have to worry about it coming loose easily. There is a blue LED to show if it is connected or transmitting. Carrying bag is not included. Also, this drive does not require a driver to function. The downside is that this drive writes pretty slowly for a small capacity. It starts at 100 MB/s and then drops to an average of 38 MB/s, which is pretty slow. I have had many larger capacity flash drives that transfer faster. The read speed isn't bad, but the write speed needs some work. I tried it on a hard drive with the same connector and cable and it was three times faster than this drive. In general, it has a beautiful design, but the fact that it loses performance compared to hard drives and flash drives (higher capacity) makes it impractical.

  • Cool product
Cons
  • Something different
