Update from 02.15 - Attempt (again) to change the degree of grinding and the whole mechanism fell apart. don't buy that. I love everything about this pepper mill. It's not too big, not too small, easy to clean if touched by evil hands when cooking. I love that when chopping up a recipe you can leave the lid on so it's easy to measure and the pieces don't spill all over the counter. The only problem is that I moved the mechanism that was supposed to change the grind size, but there's no noticeable difference regardless of the setting. Setting is too soft a word as there is no way of knowing which setting you choose. I do not know. There may be a problem with the operator, but there are no instructions to speak of, so I'm alone here. Hope that helps. I like coarsely ground peppers and this is the only setting I can find so I'm relatively happy with the product.
