This tool works when used correctly

There are a few things you must do and you must always be successful. I have attached some photos. First, the tool grips the oil filter housing in two ways - slots (3 on one side and 1 on the other) on the filter housing, and a knurled (versatile) grip on the underside of the tool. I made the mistake of misaligning the tabs with the slots on the filter body (3rd photo) and the tool still removed the filter using only the knurled inner handle. I was lucky that the filter wasn't too tight or the tool could just slide off the oil filter housing. If you lined up the tabs correctly (1st and 2nd photos), both the tabs and the knurled inside of the tool will catch the oil filter. Even with a very tight filter, I can't imagine the instrument slipping or breaking if properly aligned. The next important thing is how you put the wrench on the pry tool - there are 2 options. If the filter housing is not too tight, you can insert a 3/8" ratchet into the square hole on the tool. Several people have given 1 star reviews and downgraded the square disc removal tool on the tool. YOU CANNOT USE THE DRIVE SQUARE IF THE FILTER HOUSING IS TOO STRONG. The second way to grip the tool is to mount a 27mm socket on the tool. This distributes the force applied to the tool and prevents damage to the tool. The instructions clearly state that a socket must be used if excessive force is required to remove the filter housing. To be on the safe side, you can always use a power outlet and should never have a problem. The latest information is for reinstalling and tightening the filter housing. You should have lubricated and installed a new o-ring on the housing when you changed the filter. The O-ring seals between the filter housing and the cylindrical housing support. Very little pressure is required to properly seal the o-ring. In addition, heat causes the O-ring and other components to expand. Over time, the O-ring can swell and easily stick to the body mount. All of this is why you need to tighten the filter housing to 18 ft.lbs. That's quite a lot. This will save you unnecessary swearing the next time you try to remove the filter housing. If you do everything right, this tool should suit you perfectly. Sorry if some fool before you applied 50 lb-ft of torque to the filter housing. This tool is your best hope of fixing someone's poor craftsmanship. Much luck!
