Obviously it would take a long time to prove this, so pinning blame is difficult. But. The week before Thanksgiving I had a healthy tank with over 20 healthy cichlids and by the 2nd week of January I had none. Water quality was consistent and 6 control points remained within normal limits. I "believe" that these plants brought something into my aquarium and disturbed the ecosystem by poisoning the fish. REVISION After much trial and error I think my problem was the aquarium driftwood that was causing the problem.
