Great for my basic lock/unlock needs

I just wanted lock and unlock for my 1999 4Runner which like many people I'm used to and didn't have a factory key fob. Mine was different from most in that it didn't have a factory or dealer installed receiver. There are no wired vampires this model year, unlike trucks from the mid-'90s. So you have to endlessly search the internet to find out which cables need to be connected where. (If you need help with yours, ask in the comments.) Once installed, keyless entry does exactly what I wanted - gives me a key fob and the ability to lock and unlock it. I didn't want other bells and whistles like auto-lock, horn, shock sensor and all that. It'll be fine for people who need it, but I want it to be simple. A colleague of mine just got locked in his car with OnStar for half an hour while calling them to remotely turn off random panic mode and unlock it for him. What if there's a fire? Do I have to say more? So I disconnected all unnecessary wires from the Molex, leaving at least four (Ground, B+, Block, Unlock). I like small keychains that are more compact than anything I've used before. The buttons have to be pressed harder than I'm used to, which is very helpful in avoiding a lot of unwanted actuations from the bag. special meaning. The manual does not answer fundamental questions, such as whether it is possible simply not to use certain functions without causing a stir. Around the same time, I threw away the manual, disassembled the Molex, and did everything else on a whim. Works perfectly.

Pros
  • Heavy duty
Cons
  • Very expensive
