I prefer this design over the spiral wire handle.
I bought these as a gift for 2 friends who saw my vintage head (nicknamed Old Sparky) in this design. The old one works very smoothly, never jams or catches the flint on the rasp. A quick test on them seems a little less solid and well made, but it beats the ubiquitous round strikers that bind and require very precise pressure to move smoothly. Movement can improve if they are worn. The arc of the handle controls the pressure of the flint well and you get plenty of sparks. Time will tell if they deserve the nickname.
