PitVisit should be ashamed of themselves for the low quality of this bolt

I have two BMWs that use M12x1.5 oil pan drain bolts: an E46 and an F30. I do all my own service on these vehicles. I remove these bolts with a 3/8 ratchet, not an impact gun, and yes, I tighten these bolts using a click torque wrench to the correct spec of 18 ft-lbs.During my oil change this morning on the F30 diesel, all was going well at first. I removed the bolt, drained the oil, and wiped off the tiniest bit of stuff from the bolt magnet. I changed the plug washer, threaded the bolt back into the pan by hand, and started torquing it down. Abruptly, the torque required to turn the wrench went down instead of up, and the next thing I knew, the bolt head came loose while the threads remained in the pan. I was nowhere near spec on this bolt. That's right.the bolt failed during installation, not removal. There is no chance that this resulted from overtorquing. The pan resumed dripping after the bolt failed. Lucky me. I got up to wait an hour for it to stop dripping so I can work on it with an extractor. In this car, the bolt goes straight up into the pan, so if I attempt to work on it while it's still dripping, the extractor might slip and do damage to the pan threads. I'm going to have to spray a little brake cleaner on it to get a grip on the bolt body. The oil will be the biggest challenge since this bolt failed with less than 10 ft-lbs. on it.I'm beyond pissed. I see that PitVisit doesn't sell the M12x1.5 bolt any more, and I'm thinking I might know why. After what happened to me today, I'm going to treat the removal of the bolt in my other car like brain surgery. I can't get the factory bolts back in these pans fast enough.Don't have this happen to you. Run -- don't walk -- away from this terrible product.
