Meade and Celestron were big telescope manufacturers growing up and I still think they make great products. But to be honest, there are now also lesser-known bands that hit the ground running with a similar look at a lower price. A few years ago I had a $3,000 Celestron computer and while the picture quality was amazing, it was so much work that in two or three years I think I've used it twice. So much time was spent undressing and setting up. I'm older and more interested in small handheld telescopes. This is one of two telescopes I picked up recently. One for me (white refractor for me) and the other (this Maksutov-Cassegrain) for my son. The son is small and will not immediately appreciate this telescope to the fullest, but I think he will grow on it and the educational value is very high, especially since you can remove the lid and look inside. Very cool. The set came in a very nice box with good protection. Setup was easy. The guide is actually very cool, with several pages of illustrations and photos. Great for a child learning how telescopes work. Seriously, it's a little weird to worry about the manual, but it's pretty cool. If there is an Achilles' heel in this set of telescopes, then I think this is an ordinary tripod. It's stable and gets the job done, but I'd recommend putting this telescope on a taller, more dedicated tripod unless you intend to use it as a spotting scope on a table or bench with the included mini tripod. .The appearance of the telescope is good. It feels solid, focus adjustment is smooth, and I really like the Robin's Egg Blue color. Maybe not everyone likes it, but I like it. The image quality of the telescope is excellent. Sufficient for a start view, of course. I think it would make a great ground sight for birdwatching and target shooting, and you could do some decent stargazing with it too - the moon would be especially good to see. The kit includes an adapter that simplifies the installation of a mobile phone. to the telescope is easy. This is a spring loaded clip so attaching/detaching the phone is easy. Getting everything perfectly lined up is honestly tricky, but that's not the kit's fault - it's just a matter of precision and everything should be right. Honestly, the fact that they include this mount at no extra cost is a real bonus. For my test shot shown in the pictures, I photographed a neighbor's chimney at a distance of 93 yards or 85 meters on a sunny day. This can give you an idea of what the sharpness looks like. This is a great little telescope and I would highly recommend it for both children and adults who just need a portable telescope. I am very happy with it.
