I just switched to DirecTV as charter cable went digital. We have an unusual arrangement of living in a small house directly across from the big house. With two separate electricity meters, one for each house, we can no longer have a cable bill (digital boxes know they're from two different houses - I've even tested this theory with an electrical extension cord, but can't leave the extension cord stretched across the driveway permanent), although the electric two accounts are sent to the same address with the same owner. In any case, I was looking for over-the-air (OTA) solutions for additional TVs in large homes that weren't connected to DirecTV. Along with the Zenith DTT900 DTV (Analog TV) converter, I was very impressed. weird screws and the fact that they were screws that screw into each other and which way you put them in the stand I'm quite successful. The antenna is supplied with a separate electrical (wall mounted) amplifier. Because of this, you may need an extra coax cable or two, if you need one at all. Without an amplifier I was able to receive 16 channels, most of which have a strong tower 40 miles from Surf City, North Carolina (several stations with all their sub-channels): , for a maximum output of 20 (dB?) take WTMV and its 2 subchannels, 29-1, 29-2 and 29-3. It was VERY scrambled and then I tried to play around with the antenna placement and subsequent transducer scans failed to pick up that station. I'm not sure if this is a low energy power plant in Wilmington and the information I gathered was that it's part of a network based elsewhere. I wish some of the stations in eastern North Carolina were closer north for their news feeds, but overall I'm very impressed that a desktop antenna can work so well. Unfortunately, our CBS affiliate (WILM) is a very weak station just 35 miles from Wilmington and has been impossible to hire. Maybe one day I'll buy a very powerful multi-directional antenna from the same company and put it in the attic. Location for the WILM and East North Carolina stations.
