Review on 2020 & 2021 4Runner Push to Start Remote Starter Kit - Easy Install, Zero Wire Splicing! by Brandon Battaglia

Revainrating 4 out of 5

He does what he says.

Installed on a 21 year old 4Runner Off Road Premium with push button start. Once installed it does what it says on the tin, which is to work with your factory/OEM key fob to allow remote start with 3 presses of the lock button (press, press, press and hold). Once you have the passenger side dashboard properly disassembled, the wiring harness and key are very easy to install and programming is a breeze. The included wiring harness comes in handy as you don't have to cut or splice wires. You have to press the pin to unlock the assembled connector before adding the T-harness, which stumped me for a few moments. The main difficulty is that the kit doesn't come with a printed guide on how to disassemble the dashboard so you can get to the dongle installation. There's a link to a YouTube video (with awful music) on the installation, but the camera angles aren't great, there's no narration or detailed on-screen instructions, and I had to watch the video at least 10 times and stop to try and figure it out , how to disassemble. I actually found another YouTube video from a customer showing that you actually have to remove the climate control panel to access one of the panels which the official instructions just dismissed as an afterthought. This is actually a key panel that must be removed to gain access to the airbag and glove box mounting screws. I really wish there was a full color disassembly guide with multiple pictures and written instructions. If this only existed in PDF format it wouldn't be ideal, but still useful. The video produced is really not that helpful. Perhaps this isn't necessary for professional installers who do this many times a day, but guidance is lacking for a company that advertises that they can install themselves and avoid installation fees. I will update this review in a few months and let you know how it holds up over the long term.

Pros
  • High test scores for grip and durability
Cons
  • Not as thick as other options
