Expensive but worth it

I don't like buying crappy junk plastic when I can help because it usually doesn't last long. This one should hold up. It's made of metal. I like it. All ports are arranged in a straight line and not scattered around the case. i really like it It comes with a nice long USB cable to connect to your computer. Everything is OK. If like me you can't stand the quirky design and poor build quality of most USB hubs on the market, then this is for you. I should note that it requires an external power supply to work. Every other powered USB hub I've seen could be bus powered if no external power is needed. However, it does NOT come with a power adapter which is very lame as this is a very expensive USB hub and I expected all the accessories to be included. Just to be clear - this hub will NOT be operational. You'll have to find your own power adapter for this, which will surely put most people off buying this hub and compelling me to deduct a star from my rating. But here's the interesting thing - since this is an "industrial" USB hub, it's not very picky about which power supply to connect to it. You can connect any AC/DC power supply from 9 to 24 volts. Therefore, you may already have an additional power supply that you can use. I went through my stuff and found an unused 19v laptop power adapter that used to just take up space because. Why do you need a 19V power supply? It was time to go. I connected it to the hub. and immediately caught fire. I smiled. I didn't have to steal a 9v or 12v outlet from something else that really needed it. Perhaps mobile device users should consider a different hub. It's quite heavy due to the metal body and the corners are sharp enough to scratch other things when thrown in a laptop bag. The fact that it cannot be bus powered is definitely a deciding factor. But for desktop use, this is the perfect hub for me. No frills. Strongly built. It's all business. I like it.

Pros
  • Backup 9V to 24VDC Power input: 15kV USB ESD protection
Cons
  • Not bad
