The box arrived a little dented and the clamp mechanism that secures the top had torn a hole in the box and was sticking out the outside of the box so it was scratched and a little bent. This made it difficult to snap into place, but when I put it in place it seemed to stay put. It has a locking mechanism on both sides and the top can be folded on either side, so I just use the other side that doesn't bend to open and close it. Assembly instructions are included, very simple. It's also easy to remove the Velcro and fold it back into its original position in case you want to stow it in the trunk, as I will when not in use. Seems pretty strong. My Chihuahua dogs are around 9-10 pounds and each has their own space to sit and lie down. The pillow on the bottom isn't too soft, but you can easily throw in a soft blanket to help. My dogs don't seem to mind, they lie outside on the concrete, although they have soft beds, so I understand. The top handle had a bit of padding for carrying but the palms are a bit tight, I have small hands so it's not a problem for me but someone with big hands might find it annoying. The stretcher isn't too heavy, once I put my dogs in it was a bit harder to get them to chest height and on the table, but that may also be because I have to move around more. Inside is a thin leash mechanism to which the collar can be attached. Also has two straps on the outside of the carrier where you can insert the car seat belt to secure it in the car. In general I recommend.
