I bought an 8 foot board from Home Depot and cut it in half. Apply paint to the stencil. I tested both ways, using a brush, then a sponge, and the brush let the paint flow no matter how tight or dense you thought your stencil was. Blotting gives you a much cleaner look (I applied about 3 coats and let them dry for a few minutes in between). I used felt tip pens to clean up the edges for a sharper look.
