Review on 99 06 Silverado Sierra Extended Handle by John Holliday

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Good aftermarket part

I bought a 2002 Silverado last year with a broken extended driver's side door handle. I bought and installed an aftermarket replacement just like this. After the replacement, I noticed that opening the extended door requires a lot of force. I had to pull it all the way so it barely came loose and opened. I knew it was only a matter of time before the replacement broke too. Of course it broke after just a few months. Before I ordered another one, which was also only supposed to last a few months, I decided to do a little research. I read the advice to spray the inside of the door with WD-40 where the handle connects to the top and bottom door latches as they will break over time and make the door difficult to open (hence the broken handles). I did this before installing this door knob and now the extended door opens like new. If you are planning on replacing your extended door handle (which I suspect, otherwise you probably wouldn't be reading this review) you MUST spray the door latches before installing the new handle if you want it to last. more than a few months.

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for the elderly
