Review on ☕ Bodum PEBO Coffee Maker – Vacuum Siphon Brewer for Slow, Bold Flavor: 8 Cup, 1L, European Made, Black by Travis Varner

Great cup of coffee but with some caveats (revised)

Edited to add: Just got a reply from Bodum. They asked me to send them a photo of the broken mug and proof of purchase, which I did. They said the glass is not under warranty. It's strange because there's almost nothing there but glass! Revain doesn't have a replacement lens so I went to the Bodum website. You are not available. Retail price is $50.00. I am extremely disappointed. I've used it probably ten times and treated it with the same care as my expensive and fragile martini glasses. It broke spontaneously. I don't see the point of paying another $73 for a replacement, so I'll look into a similar device from another manufacturer. (end edit) Having a coffee pot that looks like a science experiment makes me a very lucky geek. It also makes a very clean, smooth cup of coffee. The filter, held in place by a spring, looks iffy - they're grooves in a plastic disc - but it's very effective. It works best with a relatively coarse grind. I've been using mine for three months now. Today the funnel (upper ball) broke. Part of it, about an inch on each side, popped out. I didn't drop it and didn't hit anything. I'm hoping for a warranty replacement. I have a 1 liter model. Since I only brew the coffee for myself, the second and third cups come out warm to cold. It's not a deal breaker, but if I wanted to make hot coffee for the second and third cups, I'd store it in a thermos. When I make a pot, I put it on a gas stove over medium-high heat. I set a timer for 9 minutes. This is the point where most of the water has risen to the top of the globe. I first used a flame diffuser, but the Pyrex seems to handle low flames with ease. When using a disperser, the coffee brewing process takes a little longer - 12 minutes compared to 9. It takes a little longer to brew a pot than with a traditional fully automatic coffee maker, but I think the resulting cup is worth the effort. Cleaning is also a little more work. The coffee grounds turn out to be pretty dry, so I scrape them off the compost with a rubber spatula. Then a quick swipe with the dish brush and hot water will do the rest.
