Review on Airaid 511 173 SynthaMax Filter Intake by Tyler Gannamani

The best option for modding, but not the best overall package

Forget everything "not for CA usage, the concept of this is cool, but after installation and long use, it's going to be real annoying. You improve fuel economy a bit if you can press the pedal lightly. But most likely you won't/can't. Because it is very loud! Loud headache. Expected open air but this thing overwhelms my dual TRD exhaust! Additionally, after a few years of use, the filter cracked at the rounded edge next to the worm gear band that holds it to the plastic ring. Maybe building a solid wall separating the motor from the filter would reduce the noise, but it's not a completely isolated area. So you're definitely sucking in hot engine air. Which is very important in the automotive world for the efficiency, performance and maximum performance of your car. I don't recommend this unless you're mechanically inclined; If you are, I've had great success with the following mods. Keep the stock airbox but rip out the carbon filter inside. You will notice the HP but the smog guy will still pass you as your exhaust will only be a little dirtier but within the perimeter. Then you can install a Taylor Helix throttle body gasket, install an AIRRAID intake manifold and associated hoses, and keep your stock air cleaner new and clean. That's all! Better performance, quieter on long rides and you'll really notice a difference when a throttle body gasket is installed. Remember to bring it back to camp if you smoke or they won't touch your truck. Happy trails!
