To open this review - I'm a handy do-it-yourself person but had almost no experience with car finishing/polishing , other than your usual lubrication and normal dealership wash/wax products. I knew I would have to significantly expand my knowledge and approach to take on a classic car that had sat for 30 years, oxidized, sunspotted and accumulating dirt. After a lot of reading and thinking about possible solutions. I have developed the following products: - Porter 7424XP Cable and Astro 4607 5" Polyurethane Backing - Meguiar D300 Correction Compound applied with Meguiar DMC6 Cutting Disc - Meguiar D301 Finishing Wax applied with Meguiar DMF6 Finishing Disc. This would give a good result with limited Risk of paint burn through or otherwise "doing more harm than good". I had high hopes but low expectations. The end result exceeded my expectations. There is an argument that a higher cut product is acceptable for the car in question may have been, but I was still concerned about my ability to use it without doing more harm than good.Anyway, Meguiar products did an incredible job of removing oxidation, blemishes and restoring shine. The photos tell the story, but I also think the photos don't capture how big the difference REALLY is CH in real life is. At the same time, the car itself was haphazardly repainted 30 years ago. Are back. It has many scratches and dents, some spots have been damaged so that no product can save them and various other defects. I never expected the car to be show quality, just wanted something that would look 'GOOD' to drive and be fun for a few years before I can consider a more extensive restoration. With that goal in mind, I think it was the perfect product choice. A few notes on the application process I made for this particular project: - 3 applications from D300. The former did most of the oxidation. Because of all this dirt and junk, this application looked "ugly" as if it worked. The product tended to dry out and stayed with this application without a few breaks to clean the pad. No wonder considering the original condition of the car. The second application was a much smoother process where you could actually see the coverage smooth out and the color come back. The third app was just subtle improvements - IE is what you want. It almost felt like you were doing nothing at this point - Hand wipe with a microfiber cloth to remove excess residue - 1 coat of D301, working over and over until wax lines/haze are almost completely gone. Way.- After buffing hands in a circular motion, use a dry microfiber towel to remove excess wax and smooth the rest of the application. According to the instructions on the bottle - simply clean the pads with an air compressor. I blew out both discs after each use to allow them to spin on the tool. I'm actually surprised at how well they keep "cleaning up". I hope this information helps someone embrace the project - and hopefully be as happy as I am!
