More secure than expected but may require some work

I originally bought a 65 rack ($29.99 at the time) with the intention of installing it. I actually bought three of these which I was hoping would fit in a space about 30 inches wide. However, a friend who understands these things better than I do told me that the mounting screws that come with each stand are too short to fit properly in the stud. So, all three of my racks are just standing on the carpet for now, their legs pressed against the wall. These racks can be quite difficult to assemble at first. You have to use your hands and push and pull because the holes don't quite line up. However, it doesn't take long to build them, but be careful and expect some frustration. When assembled they are quite strong for their size. You need to make sure everything is connected properly. For example, if you pick up the rack by the top "handles" and feel like it's falling apart, you might want to invest in a rubber mallet. Overall, I disagree with most of the "flimsy" or "doesn't work on carpet" reviews. I wouldn't keep them far from the wall, however, but I don't find them useless unless they're installed. Each rack has exactly 65 slots, and there is enough space at the top to hold two regular CDs or other things like a stack. for example DVDs in paper sleeves. Some slots are larger than others, but don't expect them to fit in a box set and forget to put the box set on top. For my needs, I put my box sets under a TV stand. I would like longer mounting screws as well as a sturdier construction, maybe something similar to wire shelving. I also found that large slots are a bit visually confusing. I'm not sure how they could better label them, but I'd be curious to have a 60 rack unit instead, with just two larger slots, each equating to 2.5 slots, so you could fit in a pair box . puts. The "big ones" just aren't big enough to have any value.

Pros
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • Operating speed
