This tape works well. It looks about a shade deeper than a typical red plastic taillight lens in daylight and a little darker at night because it doesn't reflect like a real taillight. If you have a chip or tear, this is the ideal long-term solution until you replace the lens. If you lose the entire taillight lens, like I just lost when someone read to me, this kit will still do, but many lenses are large, so in my car I used the entire kit (6ft) to get mine to cover old tail light Volvo S60 2001. It's effective when your taillight is on and also when you step on the brake, so it's safe enough. Throw it in the store or use it temporarily. The tape sticks very well so it doesn't sag or come loose. My car is parked outside so it was very cold and it rained last night and still ok. I was a little sloppy around the edges as I will be replacing the taillight assembly in a few days but see the photo for a general idea of how to do this. tape looks.
