They work there for a while

I have this in my car to power my stereo. The problem I have is that they are not suitable for high temperature operation. It is located next to the battery and is exposed to engine temperature. I haven't had any problems in the winter months, but as the ambient temperature rises they start to fail. I disassembled one that was not working and found that the contact had melted and become ineffective in delivering the correct voltage. Since the pins are still touching in this error state, it's hard to see that it's not working, it's supplying voltage but not the required/calculated amps. If you want to use this for the same application as me. You might want to place it in a cooler part of the car. I could get this closer to my gear but then the power cord is not protected from source to fuse.

Pros
  • Excellent construction
Cons
  • Cleanliness
