This is one of the best fans I have ever used. For those who don't know the difference, this is where a "DC" motor is used versus an "AC" motor used in most standard fans. This means several things. This fan has stepless regulation. Instead of the default low-mid-high settings, it has a dial that you can gradually adjust without pre-defined settings. That means you'll never have a problem if the low is too low and the medium is too fast. You can pick up speed exactly where you need it, from a gentle breeze to a hurricane. This also affects the power consumption. Most standard fans draw 60W+ no matter what you set, meaning they're drawing enough power at all times. This motor draws power at lower settings and consumes 5-10 watts at lower settings, saving you on your energy bills, especially with constant use over the summer months. It's also nearly silent on lower settings. It's hard to tell if it's even on until you turn the dial more than 50%, and it stays pretty quiet until you hit the highest settings. It also creates an "air funnel" that you can feel from a greater distance than a traditional fan. This makes it great when you need to plug it in across the room but still want the wind to reach you without cranking it to the highest setting. At the highest settings, the power is strong, generating enough air and force to blow paper and lighter objects around the room. Although it looks small, it has excellent performance for its size. The only drawback is the height. It stands fairly low, probably reaching a little over 4 feet in height at the top. This will soften a bit because you can point it up and down almost 180 degrees to reach just about anywhere, but it's probably too short to reach most furniture or obstacles, so keep that in mind if you want to. something that can reach difficult objects. . Being white it may also need more frequent cleaning as the dust is more visible, but that's more of an aesthetic issue. The DC motor also has an external power supply of necessity, so it's a little box on a cable like you might see on a laptop, rather than a straight cable that goes into the wall. It doesn't bother me, but it's something you might want to know about if you're concerned about things like this. The other main disadvantage is the price. That's about $50 more than the "AC" version, and the only major benefit is the motor itself. If you want superior customization and want to do something very quiet, this is for you. If you're the type that just revs it up and doesn't care too much about the noise, then save $$ and buy a cheaper "AC" model that performs just as well. Ultimately, I think the characteristics of this model make it the best choice if you are looking for a high-end reliable fan.
