This is a reliable and simple CD transporter with built in low power stereo amplifier and rechargeable battery. I charged the device overnight and was able to use it continuously for 6 hours before it started lagging. Pretty impressive for a compact device. The transport here seems like a real gem. Works very well and professionally. The amplifier is quite clean and has enough power for headphones. I used one of the headphone outputs as a line out to the system - following the instructions that came with it - and it was acceptable. In this case, the output is controlled via the volume control, as with headphones. There was a sweet spot where the output volume was just enough to deliver a clear signal to the music system and not be distorted by overloading the connected amplifier. But it was a fairly specific level that needed to be found in order to make it usable. Once I found it, it just sounded great. All in all a really good value for money if you need something more than a "drive" but less than an audiophile CD deck. And he travels well with you.
