I installed two of these on interior doors. The first door wasn't flat due to its design, but adding white silicone around the edges where the gap formed reduced the shading. The second door was flat, with no gaps and silicone. The second door leads directly into the bedroom and to make this swinging door silent I removed the bottom magnet and placed tiny strips of sound deadening material where the two pieces meet. With this modification, the door opens silently and freely. With the hinged door unchanged, there is a noticeable "pop" at the first door entering the laundry room as the magnet stops the door swinging and creates some reverberation through the hollow material as well as the cheap interior hollow door it installs in is. It doesn't bother anyone in this place and gives you an idea of where the cats are, you know when they've come through. Solid 4 stars. Very easy to install, template and screws included. Both of my doors are cheap quality hollow inside, higher quality doors may require more skill to install. The bottom line for us is that cats have access to closed door areas where they would normally fuss before being allowed in/out.
