Review on UAC CO 4440C Air Conditioning Compressor with Clutch by Donald Manipole

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Quiet and good for compressors and parts

Seems to be a good compressor, especially at $65 as mine was bought as a return. Presumably this is a copy of the Sanden compressor, or at least the "style" Sanden. Mine was made in Mexico. The sticker on the compressor said it was filled with 6.4 oz of PAG46 oil and the general instructions that came with the compressor said that the new compressor should be drained of oil. Not sure why. Also, I'm not sure why they would tell you what type of oil is in it when they just want you to remove it and throw it away. Anyway, it's the perfect replacement for the GM HT6 supercharger that came with my '96 Chevy S10 4.3L. The truck is new to me but the one I rented was a repaired unit with a leak. From what I've read the HT6 design is one of the worst GM AC compressor designs and will leak after many flex cycles. This UAC compressor has a different design and I hope it gets better. It's definitely quieter than the old one. This compressor comes with a plug in the middle of the back of the compressor for the high pressure switch. You will need snap ring pliers to remove the old ring from the old compressor and remove the plug from the new compressor. On my S10 the compressor is on top of the motor and is easy to remove with 4 screws. My compressor came with two new gaskets for the top and bottom side lines and four gaskets/washers. I think some applications need the extra height. It definitely suits me. I'm glad it's not an old design that's likely to leak at some point. And pretty quiet. It's as easy as installing an air conditioning compressor.
