UPDATE 11/20/15: THIS PRODUCT HAS CHANGED and my original 5 star rating is no longer valid. I've bought humidifier filters from Filters-Now in the past that have been fine, but their "aftermarket" manufacturer changed the materials; These new filters are really TERRIBLE. This month I have bought two types of filters from them: this (Kaz WF1 Humidifier Filter - aftermarket) and Holmes HWF72/HWF75 Humidifier Filter (also aftermarket). BOTH types use a new petroleum based plastic that smells TERRIBLE. I am very sensitive to TOXIC CHEMICALS and cannot use any of these filters. keep them as long as possible. I have two that I've been using every day for a year and they still work! Even though I add a demineralization cartridge to the water, I still have hard, dark mineral deposits on the filters. With just two filters, you can remove the dirty one, flush the humidifier, and immediately add a clean filter. Here's my cleaning method for the dirty stuff you'll need: 1) a wide-mouth, filter-height jar (a large peanut butter or mayonnaise jar will do), 2) 1 quart of white vinegar, and 3) a plastic funnel. I keep the damp used filter on a plate until it's completely dry. Then roll up and put in a jar. Pour the vinegar into the jar until it covers the top of the filter inside. Leave on for 30 to 60 minutes depending on how hard the filter was (you will see the minerals dissolve and foam on top). When the filter looks clean, use a funnel to pour the vinegar back into the liter bottle, as you can use it again and again by adding fresh vinegar when the level in the jar starts to drop. (Keep a 2 liter handy - cheap at dollar stores.) Pour tap water into a glass; Fill and drain several times to thoroughly rinse the filter. Then remove the filter and place it on your plate to dry. When it's dry, roll it up and pack it back up for the next time you need it!
