I bought this mount to mount droid DNA on my motorcycle handlebars. This mount would be too big for a small mobile phone (e.g. iPhone 4). Ram has some good information on adapting to different phones on their website if you're unsure which to choose. I needed 3 parts to secure the mount: a U-bolt, a double-locking lever, and a cross-handle. First, the U-bolt mounting base is attached to the handlebar. I taped the bars around to protect them from scratches and also created a higher friction surface to prevent the clamp from spinning on the bars. It comes with a nice adapter that fits 1" or 7/8" bars. You then need a dual lever with a male connector on each end to grab the ball on the U-bolt and the ball on the phone grip. Then attach the cross handle to the other end of the double plug-in arm and you're done. The 2 ball joints give it really good articulation so it can be adjusted in any direction and the handle makes it easy to pull down without tools. I was a little concerned that my phone would detach from the holder at high speed, but it turned out to be very stable. However, for clarity, I made a small rope to attach the phone to the mount in case it breaks off while moving. Luckily I was just too cautious because I didn't see it move at all on any of my rides.
