Review on πŸ”Œ Battery Tender Junior Charger, Model 021-0123 by Joshua Ngo

No more battery purchases

Received this on my mechanic's recommendation when my 1 year old battery died after we accidentally left the headlights on for an hour. Although the auto parts store technician tested it under load and found it ok, my mechanic was skeptical. He told me he uses the Battery Tender for all of his vehicles stored outside and hasn't bought a battery in years. That's enough for me. I usually buy a new battery every 3 years for about $150. The same applies to our lawn tractor. An 8 year old pickup battery is a miracle. All of our cars suffer from the same problem that we can't solve because we don't drive much: too many stops for the alternator to not fully charge the battery. vehicle and may never need to buy a battery that works for us ever again. I bought 4: one for each of the above machines and one for our marine battery. What I like: 1. It saved my car battery. When I first plugged it in, it stayed red for about 12 hours, meaning the battery was below 80%, even though I've driven 40 miles on the freeway since the jump. It glows green, which means the battery is fully charged.2. It's easy to install. There are two ways to connect the tender to your vehicle's battery: alligator clips and bullet connectors. The former are great for temporary connections, while the latter are preferable for permanent ones. All of ours are connected via circular connectors. The first photo shows how it is connected to our truck. The second shows a tender plugged into an outlet.3. Once your battery is fully charged and the light on the tender is green, it constantly monitors and charges your battery to keep it at 100-103%.4. With our driving style, if we don't go more than 30 miles before stopping and turning off the engine, when we get home and plug in we're constantly on red, but after less than 10 minutes we're constantly on green. This tells me that the tender is actually keeping our batteries fully charged, which our alternators can't do because we don't drive enough before turning off the engine. What I don't like: 1. The table of which battery tender is right for you suggests that "trucks" need a much more powerful model. I consulted with our mechanic and he told me that "trucks" actually refers to big trucks, not a pickup truck or anything you find in someone's driveway. I was very grateful for his advice but dissatisfied with the management of Battery Tender. Conclusion: This is a great product that can save you from buying another battery for your vehicles. It's easy to install. If you have a pickup, just buy a Junior Tender. You don't have a truck from the manufacturer's point of view.
