This carrier fits my 8 lb poodle mix perfectly. It was much safer to carry the dog in a backpack than in a shoulder bag. Our dog is small enough to curl up on the bottom of the bag while sitting upright. But it was also long enough to stretch when the bag was in a horizontal position. It folds open in the middle so you can use it lying down or standing up. The problem is solved. We have only used this bag on Alaska Airlines and we upgraded to first class as this was our first time traveling with a dog. We assumed that the area under the seat is slightly larger in 1st class. Still it was tight.
