I finally got smart and bought a few of these transceiver modules instead of trying to get a bunch of companion lamps and mounting modules working reliably in our 130 year old house and its hodgepodge of decades of wiring to bring upgrades. "Slave" modules sometimes worked, sometimes not, for reasons I didn't understand. The transceiver modules are only slightly more expensive. The trade-off is that if you use them INSTEAD of lamp and fixture modules, the number of separate zones you can have is greatly reduced. But since we mainly use them for Christmas lights, I prefer reliability over versatility every day.
