Review on Rubbermaid Filtration Bottle Filter 1784122 by Michael Crossman

Revainrating 3 out of 5

good bottle, decent filter

Previous reviews convinced me to buy this product and I have no regrets. The bottle was only a week or so, but hey, it's Rubbermaid. I've been using their puff bottles for about a decade now and none of them have worn out, not even the moving parts or straws! I don't know why they call it a 20 ounce bottle; refill holds 22 ounces with filter; I can drink almost all of it and have less than half an ounce left when I need to refill. It doesn't take a lot of force to squeeze, especially when I'm squeezing the bottle from the bottom down - the sweet spot seems to be slightly below the flattened part. This flattened shape is probably what makes the bottle easy to squeeze in the first place. If it were a different brand I might be concerned about durability for that reason, but... hey, it's Rubbermaid. The only issue I had was the draft in my mouth on the first squeeze. I deal with this by first sucking air in and out through my nose and then drinking (okay, maybe that's more than you wanted to know). The water doesn't taste as fresh as bottled water. I've been drinking but that's perfectly acceptable, especially considering the amount of money I spend on non-potable water! And I like it when I don't have to worry about taking enough water with me when I go out. This bottle doesn't leak at all and is surprisingly light without feeling fragile. But hey. And you know. Update 10/14/12: Yes it's durable and everything I've said before, but I've found that each new filter only removes chlorine and other chemical flavors for about 10 full bottles. After that, the water starts to have an unpleasant taste again. Of course, Long Island's tap water is the worst, so the filter might last longer elsewhere. It's still a good bottle, just not perfect for my needs.

Pros
  • Excellent water chlorine remover
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging
