Review on πŸš™ Reese Towpower 11004 18" Hitch Box Extension: Enhance Towing Capacity with Added Length by Michael Boyd

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great extension. Everything between the tractor and the load has to be removed.

The answer to my transportation problems. We have a 21 foot Micro Lite camper (5360 pounds fully loaded) and a four wheeler (708 pounds). For transport we use F150 "Short Box". Our problem was that we couldn't transport both because the tailgate had to be lowered and there wasn't enough room to turn. This extension extends the towbar box enough so that the tailgate does not hit the trailer. We had to add airbags to the truck to improve handling and support. You have to do it no matter what, because of course the FX4 package has plush suspension. After aligning the truck with the 4 wheel loaded on the platform and adjusting the drawbar, this extension now allows us to tow comfortably and safely. The tongue capacity is 6,000 lbs with a tongue weight of 600 lbs. Weight distribution now reduces tongue weight to 200 +/- lbs. I don't know if I would use this without weight distribution as the weight of the drawbar is placed well behind the rear axles and amplifies the weight shift like a lever. If you have the same problems as us, this works for lighter loads. We did our first trip with it last weekend and couldn't believe how different the whole combination is. With airbags (I installed it myself), additional safety circuitry, a new wiring harness (I installed it myself), and an extended disconnect wire, we spent less than $400. It is better to buy a new truck or a toy dump truck. We checked out the Diamond headboard over the $3,000 bed and should have added airbags anyway. We will be traveling to Colorado in September and will update the review with the results. Update: We went to Colorado to ride the Alpine LoopTrail and the triathlete had a spotless round trip! This extension worked great. One thing I might add to the previous post is investing in an "anti-rattle" device for the truck and extension cord. Picked up 2 for €12 each. Reduces rumble and clutch extension and collapse during launch and braking. Still under $3,000 for an over the bed ATV rack! πŸ‘πŸΌ
