My old DTL sockets were burned out as often happens with old GM trucks. I did a dry fit with one of the new sockets and had trouble keeping it in place. I didn't want to force a definitive solution for fear of damaging the socket or worse the lamp housing. I considered returning these outlets and reordering the AC/Delco outlets, which cost $8 more, but figured I'd give it another try. I took the spacer off on my second dry landing attempt and then it snapped into place, albeit sloppily. So I removed one of the old pads, installed it on the new socket and it worked. Both old pads seemed flexible enough so I reused them. Apparently the new gaskets were too thick. I used butt connectors to splice into new sockets and then heat shrink tubing to seal in moisture. This was done on a 2006 Avalanche with DTL and fog lights on the underside of the bumper so all the work had to be done on my Velcro. Not the most comfortable way to work, but got the job done.
