Leaked in 6 months

After 6 months, it started leaking at the engagement point of the coolant hose connector. Checked to see if the rubber gasket was there, but it shouldn't work. This is a bad design for a thermostat in my opinion. Why would you make a two piece thermostat that creates a failure point for leaks instead of just making a one piece design that eliminates this?
