I took it to the local junkyard to check. Given some of the reviews here I didn't want to risk my life for a product that doesn't work as advertised. Results: The knife works, although it takes some time to penetrate the seat belt material. Of course, if you urgently need to escape from the car, you can get into trouble. I buckled my seat belt in about a quarter of the time with a basic pocket knife. The hammer seems to work. You need to make a very good swing and aim for the corner of the window (structurally weaker) and you should be able to pass. But the metal tip remains very blunt, so more than one shot is no good. I also suspect that many people will not be able to successfully break a window while in a car seat. This requires *a lot* of strength and precision and would not be easy to accomplish in an emergency. Overall I would recommend a higher quality product. God willing, 99% of buyers will never use this, but it's worth spending a little more to make sure you don't risk your life if something bad happens.
