Review on LG 27GN950B UltraGear 4K 144Hz HDR Gaming Monitor with G-SYNC Compatibility and Pivot Adjustment - 27GN950-B by Bryan Aveiga

My LG 27UK500 looks better

Let's get the cons out of the way first: I started expecting a better display than my 4k LG 27UK500 panel since it costs twice as much, but it doesn't. Maybe I'm just lucky, or it could be because I only use factory settings and don't use calibration as I don't have a calibrator and I think users shouldn't (your mileage may differ from factory). . Calibration may vary by display). As with the 27UK500, this isn't the best HDR experience either; In my opinion, HDR makes this monitor worse and better not to use it. It's also non-curved, meaning long browsing sessions will hurt your eyes compared to a curved display. It also doesn't have HDMI 2.1, but it came after LG TVs started supporting HDMI 2.1, so it uses Displayport 1.4 compression for 144Hz, but to my surprise the compression is imperceptible compared to uncompressed 60Hz . I used 4k panels. for almost a decade and my first 4k display was an old Seiki TV SE39UY04 which only supported 30Hz compared to 4k. This panel is over 7 years old and it's truly amazing that it has taken this long to get to 144Hz over a single cable, although I understand the bandwidth requirements are quadrupled for normal TV resolutions (1080p -> 4k -> Any 8k quadruples the bandwidth requirements at the same refresh rate). Overall, this monitor delivers what it promises: 144Hz at 4k with a single cable and no loss of image quality. I don't have another 144Hz display to compare, but since other currently released Displayport 1.4 cables are required at the time of writing, I wouldn't mess with them anyway. I'm willing to pay first tax for no display compared to my LG 27UK500 as it's still smaller than LG's 120Hz OLED displays and has a faster response time than LG Nanocell's 120Hz displays has while still looking on par (compared to LG 49NANO85UNA). my friend has). I just didn't want a monstrous 49-inch display on my desk for software development, gaming, and content creation. Long story short, this monitor is basically priced right as it's 144Hz and looks great, but if image quality was my only goal I would just go with the LG 27UK500 or other LG 27UK/UL 4k IPS monitors instead , as they are available they are half the price. Times and refresh rate what I wanted.
