Review on 🚴 Pearl iZUMi X-Alp Launch SPD Cycling Shoe by Todd Look

Good shoe, no ventilation

I was looking for a clip-on flat shoe to replace my old PI enduro shoes. They fit great and don't have that weird forefoot/rocker flex that many cycling shoes have. They also allow the lugs to be positioned further back, which is great for mountain riding. They are pretty light for this type of shoe. The real downside was that I found these shoes to have no ventilation other than a small area at the base of the tongue. I blew air through every part of the boot and couldn't find a single spot that had air flowing through. Since cycling is a summer sport, I knew they wouldn't work in the heat. I can keep them as I paid a fraction of the selling price. These could be winter boots. But the PI really couldn't deliver airflow. The sad thing is that many of their new models, some with fake perforations, suffer from the same bug. It's a shame because PI is my number one choice for cycling shoes. This is a clear oversight in the design/manufacturing process. Hope it gets fixed in the next version. That's why I carefully test my cycling shoes indoors on my carpet before putting on spikes.
