We have 8 of these printers (QL-720NW) for printing product labels and shipping labels. The printers work perfectly on both XP and Win7. However, there are a few things to consider. 1) When you print to a printer with incorrect label setting (the printer is set for 1.1" labels and you are printing a 3.5" label), the printer turns off (red power light). So pay attention to your printer settings. All you have to do is press the power button to reset the printer. Remember that the printer knows exactly the size of the installed label. 2) Printing barcodes at 300 dpi (fast mode) may produce barcodes that "less expensive" readers will not read. If you have a different brand of barcode reader, print at 600 dpi. We use the Metrologic MS1690 and they read everything. However, some of the less expensive "offshore" versions cannot handle a "noisy" barcode. 3) Make sure you have the latest firmware installed on your printer. Some older firmware had problems with gigabit networks. The BRAdmin software is easy to update. 4) Get Brother BRAdmin Professional (free download from Brother website). It's easier to use the "Lite" version that came with the printer and it works with ALL Brother network printers as well as some HP printers. You only need the BRAdmin software on one computer to complete the setup. All other machines only need a printer driver. 5) Don't install any additional Brother software, it's awful. Throw away the disc. Download the printer driver from the website, it works without any problems. It took a while for them to work the way we wanted, but now they just work. Labels are easy to load, printers are inexpensive compared to others, and the wired Ethernet, wireless, serial, or USB connectivity is amazing. The only complaint I have is that there is no receipt paper option for these printers. Otherwise I have no complaints.
