Review on 🧴 Davines Purifying Shampoo, 8.45 fluid ounces by Amanda Smith

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Works great on my scalp but is NOT colorfast.

I have had dry scalp/dandruff for many years and have never found anything about it. It comes and goes, sometimes it goes away on its own for months, but a while ago it came back with a vengeance so I thought it was time to try something new. Well, it *worked*, and it worked well. Of course, I was skeptical about good reviews, because everyone will work differently. But it really got rid of my scalp problems! Now some caveats. First, it didn't work right away - at least not for me. I thought maybe I'd notice a tiny difference after the first wash, but that was probably wishful thinking. But after about three I could see a slight change. And after a month of use, about 2 washes a week, the peeling and itching disappeared. Wonderful! Now for two. This material is not colourfast. It's not advertised as such, so I've only reserved one star. But be aware that color treated hair can leak a lot when rinsing off after using this product. I've had magenta hair for a few years now, so I'm pretty used to the color's life cycle, particularly how long it takes to wash it out in the shower. Luckily I started using it a few weeks before changing my color so it was already fading a bit and a little coloring with the dye in my conditioner helped bring it back a bit. But I was shocked at how much color came out with this shampoo long after the color *stopped* coming out with my regular shampoo. But it led me to find out how long the Davines effect lasted. I think I used it for about 6 weeks before I finished my color. I stopped immediately as soon as I had a fresh color and my scalp was fine for another month. After that, the dryness and itching came back, but it wasn't until 2 months later that it got really bad (what now, argh). So after about 6 weeks of use, twice a week, the effect lasted for a month without use. Not too shaky (but clearly not forever, which I really wasn't expecting). Caveat three: Yes, it doesn't smell good. It definitely has an old fashioned granny house in it. It's not the worst smell, but it's not pleasant either. It doesn't seem to linger on my hair *too* long and will definitely go away by the next day. But since I can just ignore it, I'm not deducting a star. But Davines if you could improve the flavor that would be amazing. The color issue sucks, and having to compromise is annoying. But since it's the only one I've found that actually works on my scalp, I'll stick with it for now. That may mean my expensive pink hair doesn't stay that bright for long, but if my scalp isn't driving me crazy, I'll make a deal. If this shampoo was colorfast and the scent better, I would think it's perfect. From the looks of it, I'll definitely keep using it for now, but it's not exactly the right thing.
