I decided to purchase it "just in case" so that I would always have the option to read the disc in my possession. There were no problems at all. After that, I put it away in the closet, and when I needed to read another disk a year (or two?) later, I got it out of the closet, but it was broken. The error message "Failed to request a USB device descriptor" was displayed in the device manager. It is unclear what caused this mistake. I attempted to connect to three different computers using two different cables, but all of my attempts yielded the same outcome. This brings us to the close of the story, curtain:) It's possible that there was some way to bring them back to life, but we can't be sure.
