Digital meter confirms charging 4.99A from a fully discharged 18Ah battery, which is not coincidental, and a charging current of 5A indicates! The charger delivered a constant current of 5A (voltage changes as needed) from empty (battery at 10V) to over 75% charged. Then the current decreased and dropped to zero as the open circuit voltage approached 13V. And stayed on zero as it should be! (Make sure the charger and charge are unplugged, then let the battery sit for a few minutes before measuring the open circuit voltage.) The only downside was that it got warm. Not hot, but noticeably warm to the touch. Here is the battery I am using: ExpertPower EXP12180 12V 18Ah Nut & Bolt Battery Pack.
