My item came with small oil stains on the top and bottom. I can't get rid of these stains. Since this hourglass was to be a gift, I had to sand and polish these surfaces. The semi-gloss black spray paint blended perfectly with the existing finish. I still have one of these hourglasses (with orange sand) and they were in perfect condition when I received them, so I don't know how common my finishing issues are. On the plus side, the timing seems pretty accurate and my eggs come out perfectly hard boiled.
