The coolant lines that go to the heater core run to the rear of the engine and are held incredibly close to the firewall by 12mm bolts. You have to remove them to get the thermostat out. Once you do that, the 21mm O-ring that seals the coolant tube to the adapter tube crumbles to dust like Thanos just snapped his fingers. So, go to the auto parts store in the "Help" section. Don't buy $3 Buna-M o-rings. Viton O-rings for $10. They can withstand heat and chemicals and survive your car. The replacement will actually be around 22mm long, so it will be tight to put it in there.5. The rubber vacuum hoses are old and rotten. Just schedule an order for silicone replacement lines so you can swap them out on the go.6. Do not buy a poor quality replacement thermostat. Get quality. You don't want to go back to that engine in five years because you had to save $5 on the aftermarket. Remember that no matter how difficult this job is, you generally have a very easy to repair and reliable car. So do the work right and you'll never have to do it again.
