I have bought this pipe several times in different colors. Many negative reviews are misinformed about dog behavior and their sensitivity to sound. The vast majority of dogs do not magically respond to a whistle. Even if a dog has been trained in one whistle (or tone frequency), it will most likely not respond to other frequencies. The peculiarity of these whistles is the accuracy of the sound they produce, 210.5. Dogs are extremely attuned to sound, and whistling at one frequency is different to their ears. She completely ignores all other whistles because they are not on the same frequency as these ACME whistles. My dog has been trained to remember on this frequency and she is great at helping my kids and extended family when they need to remember her. Even my 2 year old can remember them with it. If you're not training the behavior you want, don't bother buying a "magic" whistle. She will not work! Otherwise it works exactly as described. It emits a tone with a frequency of 210.5. It can be quiet or very loud depending on the air you are pushing through. These whistles are well made, easy to clean and last forever.
