I have a 2004 Nissan Altima. The bolts that control the camber of the rear wheels go through the bushings and have rusted over time. One of the bolts I had to cut off was at the top of the steering knuckle where the underside of the rear shocks mount. It was dark and I was stupid and continued. You know the rest, I slapped the knuckle a bit. After pushing the bushing out, I thought about how to fix the damage I had done. JB Weld was top of the list but I figured it would be more efficient to use the quasi-weld method. I came across these aluminum soldering sticks and decided to give it a try. They didn't fit me, but that doesn't mean they won't fit you. To use these rods effectively, you must treat them like solder. The base material must be hot enough to melt the aluminum. I couldn't do this simply because of the heating materials (MAPP burners) I had available and also the mass I needed to heat. The torch just couldn't get the hinge up to the solder's operating temperature (flow) point, which is around 725ยฐF. Other than that, I could see that these work 100% well. I could make them smooth and work very well with small, practical objects. So before you dismiss them as a repair option, think about what you're trying to do and whether you have enough heat to get there. working temperature. They will work if you do this.
