As mentioned, this camera drains the batteries quickly. Just buy rechargeable AA batteries for this camera (or find alkaline batteries for a very good price). Otherwise, the optical quality of this camera is excellent for a compact camera in its price range. Color reproduction, optical (and digital) zoom, a variety of manual settings and ease of use are top notch. The battery issue is actually a plus for those looking for a good deal on a camera, as a small downside of this nature makes the camera less popular with the average user and therefore costs less to sell out quickly. to find a great discount on new or used "open box" cameras. Mine was bought "used like new" and had no scratches. You'll need to explore and try different manual "scene" settings to get exactly the results you want. If you get the right settings, you'll create much higher quality images than any phone camera. So three points: 1. Buy rechargeable AA batteries for this camera or buy standard alkaline batteries in bulk. No Duracell etc. because they last a little longer but don't justify the significantly higher price.2. Look out for discounted units.3. Explore a variety of image options to familiarize yourself with what the camera can do to get the best results. A novice user may be disappointed with the image quality, but only because they chose the wrong setting.
