Loud but functional

This is a relatively inexpensive RAID enclosure that gets the job done without unnecessary software or configuration. It comes with handles that screw to the drives with the included screwdriver and screws for easy drive insertion and removal. Discs are inserted without additional tools and can be easily removed. Good. There's an internal retaining plate and an external front panel that completely detaches for easier access, but they also feel a bit cheap. Spring. Setup is very easy, you just press and hold the mode button to start, then press it until your chosen drive/raid mode is highlighted, then press and hold the button on the back of the device (hidden behind a removable cover) until it turns off. When you turn it back on, everything is set and you can plug it into your computer and format it like any other drive. I set it up in RAID 1+0 with gpt+ext4 and read about 250MB/s and 120MB via USB 3.0 with some old 2TB WD Blue drives that had previously been cracked on my desktop computer /s written. The fan is adjustable between manual (3 speeds) or automatic, but never turns off. The fan combined with the drive noise (fortunately only 5400 rpm for me) is very loud. I wouldn't keep it outdoors near your work station unless you like a constant hum of around 35-40+ dBA at the lowest fan speed (via the phone app, about a foot from the exhaust). , the sound pressure level is about 20 dBA). I hooked it up to my router as a makeshift NAS, wrapped it in packing foam on three sides, and placed it behind some other devices for maximum soundproofing. You can still hear it, but not as bad as outside.
