Works great except all my drives cook at or above 120ยฐF (49ยฐC). My house is 75 degrees. I have an enclosure with four 2TB drives in Raid 5 that sits on my desk and is out of direct sunlight and other heat sources. The air coming out of the exhaust fan is barely warm. The case is cool to the touch, but the discs are hot, reaching that temperature in just 90 minutes. In comparison, my internal desktop drives are 98ยฐ. It's difficult to use as a media server when I can't watch a two-hour movieโ€ฆ

So good I bought the top 2 in hard drive accessories

I bought the first for a new RAID 10 system I was building for archiving. Online storage, while convenient, is a more expensive long-term solution for things I don't need to access often. I've had enough hard drive failures that I've decided it's time to upgrade to RAID. Only one of my crashes didn't have a backup, but it was discouraging nonetheless. RAIDBOX ($150) + 4 x 10TB Red Drives (4 x $150) = $750 for 20TB Google Drive storage $120/year for 2TB and now they wipe data due toโ€ฆ

Loud but functional

This is a relatively inexpensive RAID enclosure that gets the job done without unnecessary software or configuration. It comes with handles that screw to the drives with the included screwdriver and screws for easy drive insertion and removal. Discs are inserted without additional tools and can be easily removed. Good. There's an internal retaining plate and an external front panel that completely detaches for easier access, but they also feel a bit cheap. Spring. Setup is very easy, you justโ€ฆ

More than 4 years of stable, quiet and trouble-free operation.

2.5 years of stable, quiet, trouble-free operation. Running WD Red 2TB drives in Raid 10. I didn't want a fancy raid box, the more bells and whistles the more problems. It's a "set it and forget it" box. I've just ordered another one so I can separate my work and gaming from the box I'm currently working with. My second box has been running for a little over a year and works great too. I noticed that when connected via USB 3.0, it takes much longer to turn off than via eSATA. Otherwise there is

Brilliant! Electronics

I am using this in a RAID 5 configuration. Installing the drives was easy. After the drivers were installed and I powered on the device, it automatically chose RAID 5. I first configured it via USB on a Windows PC and then migrated to eSata on Linux Debian. This box works great! The light is bright but I want to see that the drives are working well and that will be in my basement computer room. Light is not a problem for me. Edit: The light is too bright and we're distracting me. In the end Iโ€ฆ

Why would anyone give less than 5 stars?

I'm an advanced user, not a techie. I've never done a RAID backup, but I think I can figure it out, partly with this disk bay. This is a great little unit. I don't know why anyone would give less than 5 stars if they didn't have a defect. The instructions definitely try to be discreet, and there are a lot of steps and caveats. There are step by step photos and maybe more than a techie wants to know, I'm not sure. Right now I just want to organize my files, then I add a 6 or 8TB drive as aโ€ฆ

Ease of use and promised protection against drive failure

a storage drive. I am using this product in RAID 5 mode with four 3TB drives. I haven't run any tests, but performance over USB 3 seems fast. Since failover was a big issue, I tested two scenarios. The first was to remove 1 of 4 hard drives while the device was running. I did this and the device was still available and had all the data reassuring me that this will handle the drive failure. After I replaced the drive, it was reformatted and was up and running again the next day. The otherโ€ฆ

Technical support does not answer calls

I bought it in 2017. Setting it up as a RAID 10 array with 4.4TB hard drives was pretty easy, giving me 8TB of storage. I used it for a few months with no problems, but then I decided to transfer it to a new computer. When I turned off the old computer, turned off the hard drive enclosure, plugged it into the new computer and turned it back on, I found that some of my data was corrupted and I had to completely reformat the device. Then I just recently unplugged it from my computer to clean up a
