a storage drive. I am using this product in RAID 5 mode with four 3TB drives. I haven't run any tests, but performance over USB 3 seems fast. Since failover was a big issue, I tested two scenarios. The first was to remove 1 of 4 hard drives while the device was running. I did this and the device was still available and had all the data reassuring me that this will handle the drive failure. After I replaced the drive, it was reformatted and was up and running again the next day. The other scenario was what happens if this device itself fails and I want to recover data from the hard drives. I bought a second unit to keep as a spare if this one dies. To test if this actually works, I turned off the original device, moved the drives to the backup (which was already in RAID 5 mode) in the same drive order (1 through 4), and then turned it back on. Windows saw the drive with the same letter and again all the data was there. Based on these two tests, I'm pretty sure my data is safe. The only scenario I would worry about is some sort of data corruption due to a chassis failure, but that's theoretical and impossible to test.
