Review on πŸ’Ž Stay-Brite STAR2000 SBSK Silver Solder 3/64, 1/2 oz"+ by Steve Harris

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Perfect for digester mods!

I used this silver soldering kit to install two 1/2" NPT threaded sockets into a stainless steel stove to attach a drain valve and thermometer. This was my first attempt at brazing stainless steel I made sure the joint was clean and shiny, cleaned it with sandpaper then rubbed it with acetone, wrapped a few turns of solder on the inside of the bolt flange, applied liberal amounts of flux to it and to the surface of the boiler and put the stud in a hole. I heated evenly with a MAPP torch, the solder melted and the stud was in place. It flowed out nicely. When the solder hardened but the area was still hot, I wiped with one damp cloth to remove any flux residue Solder joint is nice and shiny The flux leaves a small stain on the metal but mi t the help of some Bartender's Friend on a damp cloth will wipe it off immediately. Keep in mind that the melting point of this solder is slightly higher than that of traditional lead-free sanitary solder (430F vs. 360F). The MAPP gas burner makes this much faster than the small propane gas burners from the hardware store.
