Review on πŸ“ CARTA: Smart Digital Mapping Wheel with Electronic Distance Measuring and Estimating in Feet, Inches, Yards, Meters - White by Adrian Summers

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Strongly disappointing.

I really want you to like this tool. I am a building surveyor by trade and use a measuring wheel every day. For years I tried to find a way to integrate measurements with software that could create a map of my floor plan. I had high hopes that I had finally found it. First, let me say that if you're a concrete worker or landscaper and need to calculate square footage of unusual shapes, this thing will probably work. But for linear measurements this is rather useless. First, there are very few instructions. Carta comes with a multi-page manual that tells you how to turn it on and connect and use the basic features, but that's about it. Assuming that, as with most things, there is a more detailed guide on their website is a huge mistake. There is little information on their website. There isn't even a 'Contact Us' section to ask questions. Of course no manuals. The company has instructional videos on YouTube. Six of them, less than a minute each. Okay, maybe I can at least use it to draw maps that I can then incorporate into my grades. nope You can export your drawing files, but they are in a proprietary format that cannot be opened on my computer. Well at least I can draw on the satellite image as shown in all the photos they show. nope You can draw your map, then take a screenshot of the satellite image, then overlay measurements on the screenshot and scale it yourself. Then it turns back into a stupid file that you can't do anything with. I can't stress this enough: if you need a tool that calculates the square meters of weird shapes, and you do it often, this tool is probably worth it. . If you need a wheel for linear measurements, it's a lot less convenient than a regular wheel. Not to mention the more expensive ones. From the looks of it, I'll probably let this thing gather dust and hope they improve the software until it's useful to me. However, my guess is that Plott won't improve the platform, they will just sell enough of it to make some money and then move on to another useless product. The ONLY reason it gets 2 stars instead of 1 is because I see it as an advantage for a very limited segment of people who buy it. Dear Plott, if you had given buyers the opportunity to contact you and ask questions, they might have avoided further reviews like this.
